School Sport 2017/2018

At the Methodist School we are commited to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to access not only a wide range of sports but also a whole host of active learning opportunities. After school sports clubs are offered to our Key Stage 2 children on a daily basis. Our Year Sixes have recently completed their Sports Leader training and are now delivering a range of organised games and activities during lunchtimes.

We regularly compete in the local pyramid's sporting calendar and had a very successful 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 competing in Yorkshire School Games Finals - a fantastic achievement, winning 6 pyramid finals and 3 area finals. We also had our very first sports boy, girl  and most improved sports person of the year - and this is something we intend to continue - watch this space for the Methodist Schools first Sports Presentation Evening.

For the past two years we have been awarded the School Games Bronze award, this year we are hoping to apply for the Silver Award. We are commited to improving inclusive and disability sports across school. We are also expanding our current Intra sports competiton schedule to KS1 and are currently in the process of recruiting our 'School Games Crew', to not only help organise the competitions but also help to improve our sports and playtime provision.

As part of our drive to increase active learning in all areas of the curriculum we now have a new addition to the timetable - tagtiv8. Year 5 and 6 are currently developing their maths skills whilst playing a range of tag based games - check out the photos in our gallery. Year Six are now taking regular brain breaks by completing the Diamond Dash - a challenge to see how many laps of the playground they can run in five minutes. https://www.yourschoolgames.com/schools/methodist-voluntary-controlled-junior-infant-and-nursery-school-with-communication-resource/ Another new addition is the introduction of Go Noodle and Super movers as a way of keeping children active - it is proving to be both popular and succesful.

Please keep checking both the school website, Twitter, Class Dojo and our newly created School Games page (https://www.yourschoolgames.com/schools/methodist-voluntary-controlled-junior-infant-and-nursery-school-with-communication-resource/) for uptodate information about all sports clubs, competitions, results and anything else linked to being active and healthy.
